CHAMBORD

Chambord has had a career plagued with injuries and setbacks but, when right and sound, he is a highly talented son of the great Zabeel.

Purchased by David Ellis from the Karaka Premier Sale for $200,000 from the draft of Cambridge Stud, he showed plenty early being runner up in both the Listed Ray Coupland Stakes in October 2013 (a stable quienlla with Costa Viva claiming the victory) and then going on the press Atlante hard when having to settle for second in the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas a month later.

Injury continued to plague his career when, as favourite for the Group 2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile in NZ Cup Week, he bowed his tendon on the eve of the event.

Therefore it was a huge thrill - and the testimony to the patience of trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards and our team (plus his incredible owners) - to see him claim the $50,000 Listed Levin Stakes in December 2017.  In winning, he downed the 2016/17 Champion Sprinter of the Year in Start Wondering.

Next start at Te Rapa on Waikato Cup Day in December 2017, he was hugely unlucky to be held up at a vital stage in the straight.  He rallied magnificently to finish only a head in second place behind his stablemate Royal Success in the Group 3 J Swap Contractors Open Sprint 1400m.
