Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Our King Sway confirmed his fitness for the greys' race at New Plymouth on the weekends when he galloped impressively at Matamata this morning.  On a dead plough with raceday rider Darren Danis in the saddle, Our King Sway and Unfazed (Bosson) hit out boldly over 1000m in 1:03.2 and finished with a final 600m in 36.2. Our King Sway has only to run up to his last-start third to be right in the mix at New Plymouth, while Unfazed will be a fresh runner in the Rating 72 sprint at Avondale.

Sleeping Beauty (Yanagida) prepared for the open sprint at Avondale with a comfortable 1000m in 1:07.2 and 37.5. She could quite readily bounce back from a below-par performance at her last start.

On the course proper, where the going was dead after 7mm of overnight rain, Avondale candidates Andoyas (Yanagida) and Wisdom Patch (Coleman) were paired over 1000m in 1:07.4 and 39, while stablemate Nirvana In Fire (Loon) followed over the same ground with bold work in 1:06.5 and 38.2.

A Bit Lippy (Danis) and Livin On A Prayer (Roff) were in good form ahead of their Avondale engagements as they cut out 1000m in 1:06.8 and 38.6. Yvette (Bayliss), who will be entered for both Avondale and New Plymouth, was paired with Princess Kereru (Coleman) over 1000m in 1:08.5 and 38.2, while Resurrect (Bayliss) prepared for Avondale with 1000m in 1:07.4 and 39.2.

Letmeby (Handley), who makes his steeplechase debut at Te Aroha on Sunday, maintained an even rate over the last 1200m of his work in 1:23.8 and 41.9. Open steeples candidate The Other Half (R Cole) did long work, finishing off with 1200m in 1:24.2 and 41.

Pacquiao (Hashizume) and Recollect (Parma) were well held over the last 1200m of their work in 1:29.2 and 42.4.

Back on the plough Vittachi (S Collett) and Felix Faure (S McKay) cut out 1000m in 1:04.7 and 38.2.  Lady Day (K McQuade), who runs at Te Aroha on Sunday, was timed over her last 1000m in 1:04.8 and 37.2.

The Boy Wonder (Bayliss), who has been gelded since he last raced, looked bright in his work over 1000m in 1:09.8 and 40.5, while stablemate Bocce (Parvan) was keen over the same ground 1:09.6 and 40.8  Fly To The Moon (Bayliss) was also allowed steady work over 1200m in 1:27.8 and 41.5.
