Riccarton Park trackwork highlights - Thursday 13 September -

Both the plough and the small trial grass were open for fast work at Riccarton this morning with the grass having improved to ground rated at least a dead4 if not a good3.

Best gallop of the morning by far was the Pitman trained Sensei (Moore) who went with smart stable companion Carson's River (Morgan) over 800m in 47.0, getting to the line strongly from the 600m in 33.9 with Sensei doing the best of the two at the finish. Both will make strong claims in whatever they contest over the Riccarton Park spring carnival.

Zakynthos (Moore) and Odisha (Morgan) moved into their work nicely together from the 1000m with the clock getting the pair from the 800m in 46.2, the last 600m in a smart 34.2 with Zakynthos having the better of his companion at the finish.

The Sandy Cunningham trained Pinsharp (R Mudoo) and last start winner Devil's Staircase (K Mudoo) impressed when they went together in 47.4, coming home the final 600m in 34.8.

Classy filly of last season and now four-year-old Savvy Coup looked every inch a Livamol favourite when she worked strongly from the 1600m, being timed from the 1200m in 1.16.6 and still had plenty in reserve at the end of her final 600m in 35.8. She will prove very hard to beat at Hastings.

On that work the three-start Lunar Lady is certain to pick up a maiden race anytime soon. Coup Dreamwood (Moore) and Anzac Coup (Morgan) went together over 800m in 48.6, the last 600m in 35.4 with Anzac Coup doing the better at the finish.

The now six-year-old Quaintrelle looks stronger this preparation and should be well-placed in an R65. She worked alone stylishly on the grass over 800m on the grass in 47.6, the final 600m in 34.7. So Brazen had no luck last start but showed she has taken no harm when alone she galloped 800m in 46.7, coming home the final 600m in 35.4. She travels to Hastings with stablemate Savvy Coup.

Fewer horses opted for the plough where the best of the morning came from Boots ‘N' All (Jamie) who was timed solo from the 800m 47.3, the last 400m in 23.7. He looks ready to further his good record.

Yippieyioh went 1000m in 1.06.3, getting to the finish strongly from the 600m in 35.4. Sulcifera (Murphy) covered her in 1.03.7 with the last 600m in 36.2.

The Te Akau team of Remington, Miss Scandinavia, Quattro Katie, Conclusion, Wide Awake, Publicist, Richard of Yorke and Devil May Care was also restricted to three-quarter pace. Challa and Puysegur worked quietly on the No2 sand.

On the small trial grass, Ferrocious (K Mudoo) was timed from the 800m in 48.4, the last 400m in 24.5.
