Te Akau: Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Dennis Ryan checks in from the Matamata track this morning.

Viadana looked ready for a bold effort at Tauranga on Saturday when she galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning.

Working 18 metres out on a dead course proper, Viadana (R Jones) was partnered by Evancho (S Wong) over 1000m in 1:03.3, with the final 600m in 37.2. Viadana does not need to improve a lot on her last start sixth in the Westbury Classic to be a factor in Saturday's Windsor Park Japan Trophy. Evancho is scheduled to run at her home track meeting next Monday.

Our Famous Eve (Coleman) and Game For Fame (K Jones) prepared for Tauranga with smart work over 1200m in 1:17.9, 1000m in 1:03.3 and 600m in 37.8. Needlly (Dye) and Innes Rose(S Wong) had first use of the track when they cut out 1000m in 1:07.4, quickening for a final 600m in 37.3.

Ididit (Sapsworth) and Mosh Pit (Tanaka) did well later in the session to cover 1000m in 1:05.8 and 600m in 38.2. Burgundy (Brett) relished the conditions when he cut out 1000m in 1:04, hitting the line after an eye-catching final 600m in 36.4. He has tidied up with his trial at Cambridge last week and is on target for Awapuni next week.

Former Hong Kong galloper Happy Guys (Coleman), who is back with Ken and Bev Kelso, prepared for the Japan Trophy with 1200m in 1:22.8, 1000m in 1:07.6 and 600m in 38.7. The Keeper gelding, who won five races in Hong Kong, is in good order after two trial outings.

Secret Whisper (Miller) and Kindred (Dye), who will run at the local meeting on Monday, were paired in an even gallop over 1200m in 1:16.6, 1000m in 1:03.3 and 600m in 38.2. Over the same ground, Tauranga entrant Revelator (C Ormsby) returned 1:21.6, 1:06.6 and 37.9, Better Together (Hepi) and Revolutionary (Baker) took 1:18.6, 1:04.6 and 39.5, Yin Yang Master (Allen) 1:19.5, 1:05.7 and 39, and Red On Black (Demir) and No Nonsense (Tuysuz) 1:19.4, 1:06 and 38.9.

Witz End (J Collett) ran a tidy 1000m in 1:05.2 and 600m in 38.2, while Exabelle (Brett) and Enchanter (Tuysuz) were not extended over the same ground in 1:11.3 and 39.8. Choice Bro (Woollams) was allowed to roll in from the 600m in 39.2. After a brave effort in the New Zealand derby, he will now be aimed at the Manco Easter Handicap.

On the sand Taaxman (Gillies) and Art Beat (K Hillis) caught the eye with a smart 1000m in 1:02.8 and 600m in 36.8. Taaxman is set to run at Tauranga, where a change in luck is all he needs for a return to form, while Art Beat is coming to hand well as connections wait for tracks to ease.

Silverdale (S Autridge) prepared for Tauranga when he and Hurricane Fashion (Wong) strode over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 600m in 37.4. Elysium (Dye) and Mirage (S Wong) did well over the same distance in 1:04.8 and 37.3, as did Payday (K Hillis) and Vincent Street (W Hillis) in 1:03.8 and 37.6.

Water Nymph (Retter) and Catalan Gold (J Brosnan) left 1000 behind in 1:09.2 and 600m in 37.2, while Quest (K Jones) was timed over 1000m in 1:16.5 and 600m in 45.2. She has come through her impressive home track win last week in good order and is likely to run at Te Rapa on Wednesday week.

On the all-weather track One Above (S Smith) and Billie Jean King (Archer), visitors from Lisa Anderson's Te Aroha team, prepared for Tauranga with 1000m in 1:08.7 and 600m in 37.1.
