Te Akau Singapore Saturday Preview


Te Akau Singapore has eight horses entered on Saturday 27 April at Kranji. 

Training since 2018 in Singapore, Logan took over from Mark Walker on 1 January 2022 and trained over 100 winners since, including runner-up in the premiership.  Walker was Singapore Champion Trainer in 2015, 2017 (record 87 wins), 2019, and 2021, also runner-up three times, third, and fourth.


6:00 p.m. R4 1 Axel (8 g Darci Brahma – Josephines Fortune) – Luis Corrales; he drew barrier 9 of 14 in the S$50,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf and carries 57kg. A 10 time winner, now the senior statesman of the stable, he brings good course/distance stats, and is always capable especially with rain about - the first of two runners in the Te Akau tangerine in the event.

6:00 p.m. R4 5 Te Akau Ben (6 g Tavistock – Danalaga) – Ivan Espindola; he drew barrier 11 of 14 also in the A$50,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf and carries 56kg. He followed a strong second with a determined last start win, ridden also by Espindola, remains in the same grade and over the same distance, and rates a top three chance. 

6:30 p.m. R5 7 Commander (3 g U S Navy Flag – Quest) – Marc Lerner; he drew barrier 3 of 10 in the S$30,000 Class 5 2000 metres on the turf and carries 56.5kg. He should appreciate the distance and has first four claims.

7:00 p.m. R6 11 God’s Gift (7 g Haradasun – Criquette) – Carlos Henrique; he drew barrier 11 of 14 in the S$30,000 Class 5 1400 metres on the turf and carries 56kg. Drawn wide (11) won't assist his chances, and he needs to improve.

7:30 p.m. R7 8 Contarelli (4 g Caravaggio – Dark And Stormy) – Carlos Henrique; he drew there outside barrier (10) in the S$50,000 Class 4 1600 metres on the turf and carries 50kg. He stays at the same distance, has displayed positive signs at his last couple of starts, and will need to get back from his wide draw (10) - one for longer odds.

8:00 p.m. R8 9 Stenmark (5 g Medaglia d’Oro – Scandiva) – Luis Corrales; he drew barrier 5 of 13 in the S$70,000 Class 3 1200 metres on the turf and carries 55.5kg. Racing consistently, he certainly is capable of a top four finish.  

8:30 p.m. R9 8 Artillery (3 g Smart Missile – Lycra Lass) – Ivan Espindola; he drew barrier 3 of 11 in the S$150,000 Singapore 3YO Classic (Gr. 2, 1400m) on the turf and carries 57kg. He really caught the eye finishing second in the Singapore 3YO Sprint (Gr. 3, 1200m), and is beautifully drawn (3) to make an impact on this feature.

9:05 p.m. R10 5 Reignite (6 g Sebring – Risk Aversion) – Bernardo Pinheiro; he drew barrier 3 of 12 in the S$50,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the poly track and carries 57kg. He is partial to the poly track surface, possesses a good course/distance record, and rates a top four chance (pictured).
