Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers’ Premiership winner, the Akau’s Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers’ Premiership) has trained 48 winners and continues to lead the Trainers’ Premiership – after a trio of wins last Friday and four wins last Sunday.

Sunday 18 June

4.40 p.m. R1 4 GANNET – App R Zawari (a2); the day begins for Mark Walker and the team in the first on the programme, the Kranji Stakes D SW 1400m on the turf long course A. He has drawn six of 12 starters and with the apprentice claim, will carry 56kgs. The 5YO delivered a strong run for third last time out and although the 1400m may be touch short for him, he’s in good form – a top four chance.

6.20 p.m. R3 3 HELLO MICHELLE – App R Zawari (a2); a very capable 3YO daughter of Minstrel Court, a former Te Akau Group 1 performer, this filly jumps one from the outside (10) in this Class 4 1100m on the polytrack. With weight relief to 54.5kgs and a form line that has included three fourth placings from her last five starts, she is holding good form and the wide draw actually works to her advantage – a top four chance.

6.50 p.m. R4 3 STAR GENIUS – App R Zawari (a2); again Mark Walker’s very promising apprentice takes the mount on the 4YO Starcraft mare in the Class 4 1200m on the turf long course A. The first of two in this for the trainer, she jumps from gate three with 56.5kgs. This model of consistency has racked up four third placings from his last four starts, is in good form and rates a top four chance from the draw.

6.50 p.m. R4 8 DECRETO – Ismail Azhar; the second for the stable in this 11 horse field also draws well enough (5) and carries 54kgs. He can be somewhat erratic and on that basis, rates a place chance.

7.25 p.m. R5 2 IKING – Shafiq Rizuan; a good draw (3) in this 13-strong field for the Kanji Stakes D SW 1400m on the turf long course A where the hardy campaigner carries 58kgs. He might by a rising 9YO but he is racing very well and rates a top four chance.

8.25 p.m. R7 10 LIM’S DELIGHT – Derreck David; although this son of Kaphero has had mixed fortune at his last couple of starts, his results prior were very strong (2-1-2) in a lower grade. In this Class 4 1200m on the turf long course A, he draws to be dangerous (3) and carries a lightweight 52kgs. This however is a rise in Class for him which makes things somewhat harder – a top four chance.

10.05 p.m. R10 1 IVANHOE – App R Zawari (a2); the last runner for the night for Mark Walker is a 4YO Australian bred – he jumps from gate five and carries 56.5kgs with the apprentice allowance in the Class 4 1200m on the turf long course A. In this S$60,000 event, he drops back to Class 4 company and the trainer thinks he can improve.
