Te Akau: Te Akau Midweek Update
Date: 20 Mar 2013
Half way through yet another week with plenty happening - horse and people wise.
David writes:Today we are sending the first four yearlings that have been broken in, into our Matamata stables for some further education. They will spend about three weeks at Matamata going through the starting stalls, learning to swim in the pool, be part of trackwork etc before coming home for a good spell to grow and develop further. The four yearlings are all home breds (we call them "home growns") and are:-
a Minstrel Court/La Conga filly - a half sister to Riedel
a Saperavi/Scicolone filly
a Minstrel Court/Fidelitas gelding
a Minstrel Court/Aventura gelding
They have been working beautifully at Te Akau Stud and today is the next stage of their big learning curve as they travel on a horse float together for the first time since they were young foals.
The rain has all gone - we finished up getting 64 mls which will certainly be enough to start greening the farm up.
Today I am in Auckland all day for meetings and tonight will be dinner with friends.
