Te Akau: Te Akau NZ Matamata Preview

It is a case of racing on Te Akau NZ's home turf today.

Te Akau New Zealand has six horses entered for the eight-race programme on Wednesday March 13 at Matamata.

As at 9:38am the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail out four metres - no further irrigation.

1:45pm R2 5 Enchanter (3 g Saperavi - Ensorcelez) - Rosie Myers; prepared with a nice third at the trials on Feb. 19 at Cambridge. Drawn seven of twelve in the Maiden 1200 metres, he has family members to have won fresh-up over shorter trips and he presents as an athletic type - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

1:45pm R2 11 Milan Miss (3 f Darci Brahma - Falaniella) - Lisa Allpress; ran second in a lead up trial on Feb. 7 at Paeroa, and has drawn nicely in barrier five. She is a genuine filly, with the pace to settle handy and should suit this rider.

2:20pm R3 7 Jewels Gift (2 f Stravinsky - Jesmonds Gift) - Rosie Myers; makes her debut from the outside barrier in a field of nine over 1200 metres. Able to secure an economical passage, she has shown through her deeds in two trials the talent to make a good fist of her first appearance.

3:30pm R5 14 Orinto (3 f Iffraaj - The Perfurme Garden) - Rosie Myers; makes her debut from barrier five in a field of fourteen over 1400 metres. She has good trial experience and displayed an appreciation for her home track when second here over 1300 metres on Feb. 26. Her dam, The Perfume Garden (Tights), won five times from 1100m to 1500m, and four progeny of her grand-dam, Garden of Eden (Balmerino), won twenty races between them.

4:05pm R6 1 The Looker (4 g Handsome Ransom - Pinstinct) - Daniel Miller (a4); fought solidly for sixth, in tight quarters, on Feb. 13 in the Benchmark 65 1600 metres at Ellerslie. Back in distance to 1400 metres, and drawn barrier three, he has raced well previously on his home track - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

4:05pm R6 14 Exabelle (4 m Exceed and Excel - Avabelle) - Mark Du Plessis; finished seventh in the Benchmark 65 1400 metres on March 2 at Hastings, and returns third up from a spell in the corresponding race. She has blinkers on for the first time and will be let find her feet from barrier ten.
