Te Akau Timaru Preview
Date: 12 Oct 2017
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Friday 13 October at Timaru.
As on Thursday 12 October the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail true. No rain forecast.
12.13 p.m. R1 5 Lady Amadeus (4 m Medaglia D'oro - Rialto Bridge) - Opie Bosson; ended her previous campaign in April after a second and two thirds, and without a trial she resumes off 169 days in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She finished second on Slow8 over 1400 metres in March at Matamata and appears a strong contender in this field from barrier two.
1.22 p.m. R3 1 Zavistic (4 g Zacinto - Miss Avalon) - Opie Bosson; lost several lengths when beginning awkwardly and ran the fastest last 600m (33.8) when staging a big run for second, resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 15 September at Oamaru. Trialling prior, he kept up a resilient gallop to win on 1 August at Te Teko. Drawn barrier one in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, his second and five thirds (in stronger fields) from seven starts suggests he should prove very competitive.
1.57 p.m. R4 9 Astrid (6 m Pins - Astralita) - Samantha Collett; has trialled twice and resumes off 181 days in the $11,000 Rating 85 1200 metres, against a solid field. Securing the right trip from barrier 11 is paramount and she may meet a few sharper over this trip but has beaten some good fields in winning five races, including two from five when last campaigned, and a mare that just continues to improve with age and maturity.
2.32 p.m. R5 3 King Kane (4 g Showcasing - Vannista Belle) - Opie Bosson; has been off the scene since racing in February, and without a trial he resumes off 229 days in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He displayed good attributes winning his Maiden over a mile on dead ground last season at Hastings. Drawn wide and looking forward to more distance, he will be ridden to find the line from off the pace.
