Lena Jones was destined for a career in the racing industry, being the daughter of a horse trainer.  The middle child of three for Wayne and Liz Jones, from Hawera, in the Taranaki, Lena was surrounded by horses from a young age.

Pony club and event riding, Lena continued her experience during yearling preps, mares and foals at Coolmore Australia, and one with Coolmore America, Kentucky, racing stables in Australia, and a position with the Racing Bureau in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing offices at Petone, Wellington.

“Working for Te Akau Racing is very professional and I love it,” Lena said.

“The business runs with meticulous precision even though it is a major operation and I love playing my role in ensuring that everything runs like clockwork, no one day is the same!
