Lot 114 b c Deep Field – Claudine (Lonhro) $95,000 (draft: Henley Park)
His sire, Deep Field, was a highly regarded group two winner in the Australia, by the ill-fated emerging stallion Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) who has since proved a huge loss to the Australian stallion ranks.
Deep Field is a brother to Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Shooting to Win, their dam, Listen Here (Elusive Quality), subsequently selling for nearly $4 million.
His first yearlings averaged $220,000 at the recently completed Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast, making him top first season sire.
“I was really impressed with this colt as an ideal Karaka Million type when first inspecting him at Henley Park,” said David Ellis.
“He’s a very good walking, athletic, horse from a good two-year-old family. The sort we can break in nice and early, trial in August, and prepare for two-year-old racing.
“He’s a horse we considered very good buying at $95,000.”
This colt is line-bred to some terrific sires: Sir Tristram, Mr. Prospector, and Northern Dancer.
