Lot 152 b f Shooting to Win – Deliciano (Darci Brahma) $65,000 (draft: Pencarrow Stud)
The first foal from a talented race mare that won six races from 1800m to 2100m, she by Darci Brahma (Danehill) whom Te Akau trained to win five group one races before becoming a Champion stallion.
The family is a classic of top-class thoroughbred nursery Pencarrow Stud. Second dam, Santagostino (Gian’t Causeway) was an impressive winner in NZ, and Australia, while third dam, Devil’s Lair (Sir Tristram), left NZB Filly of the Year Vapour Trail (Jetball).
His sire, Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Shooting to Win, is by the ill-fated emerging stallion Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) who has since proved a huge loss to the Australian stallion ranks.
Shooting to Win is a brother to the highly regarded Deep Field, whose yearlings averaged $220,000 at the recently completed Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast, making him top first season sire.
Their dam, Listen Here (Elusive Quality), subsequently sold for nearly $4 million.
“She is a beautiful filly by a very well bred first season sire,” said David Ellis. “She has plenty of size and strength, good head, and plenty of quality.
“It’s a really good staying sort of family, and while I can see this filly racing an autumn two-year-old, her forte should be over ground as an Oaks filly.
