Lot 331 gr f Pins – Lasting Luck (Iglesia) $115,000 (draft: Waikato Stud)
While not a multitude of greys by the leading sire of stakes winners (75) in New Zealand, two grey fillies by Pins really standout: history making filly Katie Lee, winner of both the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and another filly, Raid, a listed winner that placed in the Karaka Million (Listed, 1200m).
On day two of the Book 1 sale, Ellis bought the Savabeel colt out of Katie Lee (Lot 301) – topping the sale at $1,025,000.
Lasting Luck has produced an impressive recent winner, Miss Horotiu (Savabeel), a mare with terrific acceleration and she appears capable of becoming a stakes performer.
“She is a strongly built filly and one I can see contesting the Karaka Million next year,” said David Ellis, who purchased the last two winners of the iconic race: Melody Belle (Commands) and Avantage (Fastnet Rock).
“I was really impressed how she paraded on each of our inspections and I think she is a very good value filly.”
