Lot 439 b or br f Per Incanto – Not A Jaffa (Iffraaj) $290,000 (draft: Little Avondale Stud)
Like Champion Two-Year-Old Melody Belle, this filly is the first foal of an Iffraaj mare.
“She’s a really athletic filly with a super walk and plenty of spunk about her,” said Little Avondale Stud boss Sam Williams.
“She’s been a great filly to parade here all week and she’s absolutely thrived during the yearling prep, and going to make into a stunning type on the track.
“It certainly wouldn’t surprise me to see her in the (Te Akau) tangerine colours come 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) time.”
Her grand-dam, Bagalollies (Zabeel), is the dam of Werther (Tavistock): Horse of the Year & Champion Middle Distance Horse in Hong Kong, recent New Zealand Cup (Gr. 3, 3200m) winner Gobstopper (Tavistock), and Desert Gold Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) third placed Milseain (Tavistock).
During the first session of the Book 1 sale, the Tavistock – Bagalollies filly sold for $500,000.
“She’s got great upfront residual value through the progeny of Bagalollies,” Williams said.
“It’s a real feather in the cap for Per Incanto. He can leave fillies and colts and I think you’re going to see them continue to get better and better.
“He’s a done a great job already with his early racing progeny, there is some really promising ones coming through and the reason I have 30 of my own mares in foal to him, because of what he’s been doing and what he’s got the ability to do.
“They’ve got better with age and we’re seeing that, now, big time.”
“Like Sam (Williams) has said, she’s a beautiful filly,” said David Ellis. “I fell in love with her and while the 1000 Guineas could be an aim, she also looks to have the scope to become and Oaks filly.
The filly is represented in blood with a terrific stallion influences: crossed with Mr. Prospector, Ahonoora, Nureyev, and Northern Dancer.
