Lot 743 b f Bullbars – Highland Lights (Fantastic Light) $46,000 (draft: Wentwood Grange)
This filly is a half-sister to Our Abbadean, trained for Wentwood Grange by Te Akau trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards.
Our Abbadean came of age with an impressive win two starts ago at Awapuni, and followed up with two very good efforts since – the most recent a good run for fourth in the $40,000 Douro Cup (Rating 85, 1600m).
“She is a beautiful athletic sort of filly,” Ellis said. “We train her half-sister Our Abbadean, who is capable of gaining black type and we think she will run very well this Saturday (Feb. 4) at Te Rapa.
“Wentwood Grange is a renowned breeder in New Zealand and they’ve done a great job with the stock of Bullbars already, having had a couple of winners from their farm by this stallion.
“The stallion injects plenty of speed, this filly is not too dissimilar to the makeup and shape of Melody Belle who won the Karaka Million for us only a few days ago and we were rapt to get her at such a good value price,” he said.
Within her bloodlines there is a very interesting cross of a mare called Glorious Song (Halo) on each side of her pedigree. Glorious Song is the dam of two internationally acclaimed stallions: Singspiel and Rahy. Singspiel features on the dam side of Bullbars, and Rahy is the sire of dam sire Fantastic Light.
