Lot 16 br c Sacred Falls – Alberton Princess (Golan) $170,000 (draft: Phoenix Park)
The first yearling by Champion Three-Year-Old (up to 1600m) and four-time group one winner Sacred Falls (O’Reilly) to sell at Karaka, himself a $160,000 purchase when he sold in 2011.
From the terrific colonial Alberton family, his dam Alberton Princess was an impressive winner on two occasions over 1400 metres and already left three individual winners of seven races.
The family is notable for producing a very good line of genuine racehorses, the likes of impressive four-time winner Alberton Star (Stylish Century), who has since left seven individual winners of 21 races, and the fast finishing group two winner Sir Alberton (Red Tempo).
“It’s a family that Te Akau knows well and has already experienced considerable success with, including Te Akau Rose (Thorn Park) winning the Matamata Breeders Stakes,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “It would have to be one of the most potent two-year-old families in New Zealand, and he’s a lovely horse to kick off our sales purchases.
“A lovely correct, straightforward, good moving horse that really captured our attention from the first time we saw him at Phoenix Park.
“He was beautifully prepared for sale, athletic, and very much in the mould of his sire.
“We have been really impressed with the progeny of Sacred Falls. He was an unbeaten two-year-old himself and we believe this horse can be set for the Karaka Million.
Footnote: David Ellis has purchased the last two Karaka Million winners. Melody Belle (Commands) won in 2017 and on 27 January Avantage (Fastnet Rock) made it two in a row for Te Akau.
