Lot 182 White f Reliable Man – Keenly (Keeninsky) $180,000 (draft: Diamond Lodge)
Having previously been under-bidder on two white yearlings, both out of The Opera House, that sold for $450,000 and $510,000, David Ellis has finally been able to secure a white horse.
“Karyn (Fenton-Ellis) my wife was insistent that I buy her as Karyn has been following this filly and was determined to syndicate her. She is one of the nicest and most relaxed fillies you’ll see in a lifetime of inspecting horses,” Ellis said.
“She’s a gorgeous example of equine excellence and being a white filly she will really standout in her races and you can just see her going past the post in the tangerine colours, looking spectacular and making for a great photograph.
“Colouring aside, she is a very athletic filly that displayed a terrific action in her breeze up. She has excellent conformation and we were thrilled to be able to purchase her.”
Keenly was a talented race mare, winner of three races up to 2200 metres and bay in colour, this filly has inherited her colouring from the grey stallion Reliable Man, an up-and-coming sire who includes Group One placed two-year-old Belle Du Nord and recent Te Akau trained filly Gris Dame amongst his young progeny (Gris Dame was bought by Ellis for $125,000 at the 2016 Ready to Run Sale).
The filly has a high-quality depth of stallions on the dam side of her pedigree, with second dam Marlena being by Champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram), who in turn is from Success Express mare Vargas Diamond. Success Express is also the dam sire of Champion stallion Savabeel.
