Lot 125 2 c Savabeel – Marveen (Orientate) $175,000 (draft: Kilgravin Lodge)
By Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old Savabeel (Zabeel), a four-time Champion sire, he has proved himself to be one of the most versatile stallions in Australasia. Group One winners at two years old and from 1600 – 2400 metres at three, plus older horses amongst his tally of 17 individual Group One winners. His yearlings have sold up to $1,025m.
His dam, Marveen, was a consistent mare at high levels in Australia, winning six races between 1000m and 1800m, including two listed, finished second in two Group Two races and third in a Group Three, for $685,845 in prize money. Her sire, Orientate, was a U.S. Champion Sprint Horse and sired 46 stakes winners.
The colt appeared naturally athletic and an easy mover when breezing up in a slick 10.28 – the fourth fastest time from 445 breeze ups.
“We were really impressed with the way his breezed up,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “He’s a neater type of Savabeel and has plenty of speed on his dam side.
“He reminded us of Hall of Fame, another Savabeel we bought at the Ready to Run Sale and he went on to win the Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m) and five of his 12 starts before being sold to Hong Kong.
“It’s a sharp sort of family, with plenty of two-year-old form and we think he can prove competitive as a two-year-old in the latter part of the autumn and then prepare for a Guineas’ campaign as a three-year-old in the spring.”
