Lot 244 2 g Darci Brahma – Shamardal Luck (Shamardal) $200,000 (draft: Phoenix Park)
He breezed up rather effortlessly in a very respectable time (10.70), held together through the line and showing a nice bit of stretch.
Well known to Te Akau, his half-brother Shocking Luck (Shocking) was trained in the stable at Matamata, finishing second in the Waikato Guineas (Gr. 2, 2000m) before winning the Rough Habit Plate (Gr. 3, 2000m) at Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, and being sold to Hong Kong.
Both horses were bred by Bred by Terry Archer and Grant Currie, long time breeders and racing enthusiasts.
The third foal from the mare – Shocking Luck was the first – his dam was a winner up to 2100 metres and six time champion stallion Darci Brahma, a winner of five Group One races, bought as a yearling by David Ellis for $1.1m, from the draft of Pencarrow Stud, at Karaka.
Karaka Million Eligible, he was a cracking yearling and really grown, developed, and thrived during the Ready to Run Sales preparation. He has a lovely big action and bred to get over similar distances to Shocking Luck.
He was well inspected on the sale grounds and there were several under-bidders that also wanted to buy the horse. A very popular horse and some spirited bidding took place before he was secured by Ellis.
