2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale
Lot 214 b f Zoustar – Luminous Harmony (Fastnet Rock) $230,000 (draft: Rosemont Stud)
At the corresponding sale last year, Zoustar (Northern Meteor) sired a $1m yearling filly from his first crop.
Having won six of his nine starts, including two Group Ones and a Group Two, Zoustar became one of the most sought after stallions in Australia, following the premature demise of his sire Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) who had been Champion First Season Sire.
Zoustar was sold to stud for $14 million in the week leading up to his victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Flemington, which provided jockey Jim Cassidy with his 100th Group One winner. Cassidy claimed Zoustar to be “a better three-year-old than Redoute’s Choice and more brilliant than Pierro”.
His filly, Sunlight, has won five from seven: including the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and recently finished third in the $4m Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m).
“I bought a Zoustar filly (Quattro Katie) last year at 2017 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and we really like her,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “She actually beat Avantage (in line for Champion Two-Year-Old honours) in her first trial and almost ready to debut.
“The stallion is particularly exciting and she was very good buying at the price.”
Her dam, Luminous Harmony (Fastnet Rock), won four races to 1400 metres in Australia, and a sister to highly talented dual Group Three winner Neena Rock.
“We have had plenty of success with the stock of Fastnet Rock, notably Group One winners Avantage, Age of Fire, and Heroic Valour, and he is really starting to do the job as a broodmare sire,” Ellis said. “He produces a lot of strength in his horses.
“This filly has the strength and maturity to become an early type, Matamata Breeders’ Stakes, races like that, and also train on to become a 1000 Guineas filly at three.”
