Te Akau principal David Ellis was in action early on the first day of the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, when purchasing Lot 30.
Lot 30 b f Redoute’s Choice – Aware (Tale of the Cat) $300,000 (draft: Newhaven Park)
By the undisputed king of Australian sires, Redoute’s Choice, a son of the most successful sire of all time in Danehill (Danzig), his dam sire, Tale of the Cat (Storm Cat), was a Champion 2YO sire in the U.S.A, Champion Freshman sire in New Zealand, and sire of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Tell A Tale who was purchased as a yearling by David Ellis for $125,000 at the Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast, and trained by Mark Walker.
A beautifully athletic filly, she is the first foal from a mare that won three times over 1200 metres, and boasts the speedy influence of stallion Lunchtime (Silly Season) on both dam sides in her pedigree.
“She’s a fast looking filly and has plenty of natural strength about her,” Ellis said. “She’s short coupled, powerful moving, very attractive and has some great sprinting bloodlines in her pedigree.
“We’d be aiming this filly towards the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Ellerslie, a race we won this year with Sword of Osman (Savabeel), and would like to think she could train on to be a Sires’ Produce (Gr. 1, 1400m) filly and emulate the win in the race by Avantage (Fastnet Rock).
“She’s an early foal, which shows in her physical maturity already and everything about her impressed us during inspections.”
