Consistent mare Kai broke through for her much-deserved stakes' victory on Boxing Day at the Otago Racing Club's Wingatui meeting.  By Ocean Park, the mare has always been the model of consistency, having been entrusted to Te Akau to train.

She debited for runner up as a 3YO in October 2021, and between February and September 2022, she recorded five consecutive second placings - indicating her maiden win was not far off.

The maiden win arrived on a Heavy9 home track at Matamata in September 2022, and she followed this with winning performances in November 2022 and May 2023 (both on heavy tracks). 

In October 2023, on a Good3 at Te Rapa, she stylishly claimed her fourth career win, and the genius plan of the Walker/Bergerson training team was set in place - as she headed to the South Island in search of highly valued back type for her broodmare future.  A trial at Ellerslie in early December 2023 saw her primed and ready for the journey south to Te Akau's Riccarton stable.

On Boxing Day 2023, she again struck an unseasonal heavy track for an Otago summer - conditions she relished.  In the hands of Kylie Williams, she drew awkwardly (13), and was forced to settle three wide in ninth position. Travelling even wider on the corner heading for home, the 5YO chestnut posted a huge finish to claim a half length victory in the $80,000 Listed Property Brokers-Ray Kean Hazlett Stakes Open Hcp 1200m.

Kai is raced by Mrs C S and J G Beatson, T Duncan, H Frame, D and J A Worker. She has raced 24 times for five wins, a whopping 19 placings (including six 2nds and seven 3rds), earning $136,165 in prize money to date for her connections.
