A Berri Big Farewell

Date: 22 Apr 2024

After announcing Imperatriz’s retirement last week we wanted to share our favourite memories of ‘Berri’, our shining star, who has dazzled the world with her incredible feats on the racetrack. We will treasure her memories for a lifetime.

In her illustrious year of 2023, Imperatriz surged ahead, claiming victory in an astounding six Group 1 races, outshining all others on the international stage. No other horse globally won more Group 1 titles than her.

The 2023/24 season witnessed her continued dominance, with five Group 1 triumphs in Australia, elevating her career tally to an impressive ten elite career titles. Notably, she even set a new track record during a Group 2 win in Australia, only to then break her own record at her veery next start.

Imperatriz etched her name in the annals of racing history by becoming the first horse to achieve the MVRC Group 1 Sprint Triple Crown not once, but twice—both in a calendar year (2023) and a racing season (2023/24).

From her victorious starts as a two-year-old to her resounding triumphs as a five-year-old, Imperatriz has captured hearts and trophies alike. Her prowess extended across the Tasman, earning accolades as Australia's premier sprinter and setting two track records at Moonee Valley.

Currently reigning as the top sprinter globally and holding the esteemed second position overall on TRC Global Rankings, her legacy is nothing short of legendary.

Thank you Berri for lifelong memories - you were Berri Berri good indeed! We can’t wait to see you become a Mum!
