Catch up with Sam Bergerson - our Te Akau New Zealand Co-Trainer from 1 August 2023!

Sam brings outstanding credentials to his new role. He's got the brains, expertise and dedication, all underpinned by a wonderful racing 'pedigree', that would make any stable proud to have him leading its team.

Coming from a rich thoroughbred background, Sam's father, Roydon, and his grandfather, Herb, were both highly accomplished trainers. He has inherited their passion for horses and his commitment to excellence on the track and off is second to none.

After graduating with an accounting degree from Massey University, Sam was awarded the prestigious Sunline Trust International Scholarship. This highly sought after opportunity provided him with invaluable international experience at renowned studs and racing stables, including time spent working at Shadwell Stud in England, Coolmore Stud in Ireland and Winstar Farm in America.

Sam's journey in the racing industry has been nothing short of remarkable. While studying at university, he undertook a cadetship with an accounting practice for four years, underlining his impressive work ethic. He even took a break to explore his future by playing rugby in Ireland before working at Ballydoyle Stables near Tipperary, Ireland under the guidance of champion trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Now, Sam's ready to jump out of the starting gates next season with our team at Te Akau Racing. Sam's passion for horses and his 110% "can do" attitude make him an incredible asset to our Tangerine Team! 

 Let's give Sam a warm welcome and cheer him on as he joins forces with Mark Walker. Together, they're aiming high for the 2023/24 season, and we know with their passion and determination they will make a dream team!
