Embellish won the $500,000 Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas at just his fourth start. He joins an outstanding Te Akau honour roll of now six horses to claim this iconic race in the past 14 years – no other stable comes close to this record.
In fact the 2017 edition was notable for almost being a Te Akau trifecta with Age of Fire in second place and Te Akau Shark just nailed for third.
In January 2018 Embellish contested the inaugural $1 million Karaka 3YO Classic with stable rider Opie Bosson in the saddle and, after a rocky run, he was beaten only a whisker in to second.
Embellish stands tall alongside Te Akau trained and David Ellis purchased Horse of the Year, Champion 3YO and Champion Sprinter/Miler King’s Chapel; Champion 2YO, Champion 3YO and Champion Sprinter/Miler Darci Brahma; Tell A Tale; Rock ‘n’ Pop and Champion 3YO Xtravagant who was a breathtaking eight length winner.
By Savabeel, Embellish was purchased by David Ellis for $775,000 from the draft of Waikato Stud becoming at the time that stud’s highest priced lot ever. Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, he is raced by the Te Akau 2016 Breeding Syndicate (managed by Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
To date he has won three of his six starts, with three placings for stakes’ earnings of $468,310.
