GINGERNUTS

Gingernuts was purchased by David Ellis from the 2015 Karaka Ready to Run Sale for $42,500.

The son of Iffraaj won as a 2YO and at just his sixth start, he claimed the $100,000 Group 2 Avondale Guineas as a 3YO.  He did this by almost 1.5 lengths, downing some outstanding horses, including a Champion 2YO, in the process when ridden by Johnathan Parkes..

Gingernuts becomes Te Akau's fourth Avondale Guineas' winner following in the footsteps of Few Are Chosen, Tell A Tale and Icepin.

In March 2017 Gingernuts had the honour of becoming Te Akau's first $1,000,000 Group 1 Vodafone new Zealand Derby winner in the hands of Opie Bosson when trouncing the opposition in the 2400m iconic race.  He is trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards.

Two weeks later Gingernuts headed to Sydney and crushed his opposition in the A$600,000 Group 1 Sky racing Rosehill Guineas over 2000m, sending him into Group 1 ATC Derby favouritism, a race in which he finished fifth before spelling.

Gingernuts was runner up in both Champion 3YO and Horse of the Year awards for 2016/17.

His 4YO campaign kicked off in the $200,000 Group 1 Tarzino Trophy where he received a massive check and rallied to finish fifth.

However he turned the tables winning the $200,000 Group 1 Windsor Park Plate at Hastings on the second day of the Carnival on 22 September - his third Group 1 scalp.  On the re-scheduled last day of that Carnival, he was beaten a whisker into second in the $250,000 Group 1 Livamool Classic.
