NOVERRE

A beautifully bred son of Savabeel, from Rip Van Winkle mare Magic Dancer, Noverre was a stand-out colt to the eye of David Ellis CNZM from the first time he inspected him.

It's great to have the looks (and the superb pedigree) but it's also about translating that into race track success.

Noverre was a stylish winner as a 2YO at just his second start in February 2021 at Wanganui with stable rider Opie Bosson aboard.  Unfortunately at his next start in the $50,000 Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre 2YO Stakes at Te Rapa in May 2021 (for which he was favourite), he reared in the gates for replacement rider Andrew Calder and was never in contention.

Sent to Te Akau's South Island base to be prepared for the $500,000 Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas staged in November 2021, Noverre was runner up in the Guineas' trial over 1400m at Riccarton.  It was an eye-catching run after being slow away as the colt recorded the fastest final sectionals of the day, roaring home from rearward for rider Jason Laking.

Later that month, and with Jason Laking again aboard, he turned the tables with a class performance to claim the $90,000 Group 3 War Decree Stakes 3YO SW over 1600m at Riccarton.  Charging through on the inside to win, his performance saw the TAB immediately install him as favourite for the classic event that Te Akau has won six times.

On 6 November 2021 Te Akau's Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas tally rose to seven as Noverre scored in the hands of stable rider Opie Bosson.  It was an outstanding return to the saddle for the gun rider who had to overcome a wide draw, slowing horses, traffic and a stack of bad luck to drive the colt home in a sparkling finish that turned heads.

This win was very important for Noverre as he was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $800,000 from New Zealand Bloodstock's Karaka Sale, Book 1 - with the aim of establishing a future stallion career for him.

Noverre has raced seven times for three wins and three placings - winning $355,150 to date.

Te Akau has now won seven Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas and six Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas in the past 18 years  - a total of 13 Guineas' titles - a record that no other stable can come close to.
