Sassy 'N' Smart

Sassy 'N' Smart really made her mark early in her career when winning on debut in October 2015 and then claiming the $50,000 Listed Welcome Stakes on 14 November 2015 at Riccarton.  On that day Te Akau won four races including the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas.

A daughter of Smart Missile from Panorama Ridge, this filly was purchased by David Ellis from the Inglis Sydney Easter Sale for A$150,000 and is a beautiful specimen of a filly.

Her first start/first win provided that result for her sire - we are proud she was his first runner and first winner world-wide.  She kept that record in tact by then becoming Smart Missile's first stakes; winning globally as well when winning Te Akau's fifth Welcome Stakes' success.

In February 2016 Sassy 'N' Smart was beaten a whisker in the $100,000 Group 2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes after drawing 10 from 10 - she flashed home to force a photo finish in a stunning display of acceleration.  She was also very unlucky in the $200,000 Group 1 Sistema Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie in March 2016 when drawing wide and copping interference when mounting a challenge in the straight.

Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Sassy 'N' Smart has raced four times for two wins and a second placing with stakes' earnings of $61,060.
