Windborne

Like her one year older, full sister Darci's Dream - Windborne was bred by Te Akau Stud's David Ellis and his wife Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM.  By Darci Brahma, who himself was selected and purchased by David Ellis, this filly out of Van Nistelrooy mare Sweet Dreams Baby was purchased by Fortuna Syndicators from the Karaka Select Sale for $100,000.

Fortuna Syndicate's John Galvin had been taken with the promise shown by Darci's Dream (who went on to win the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes and finish runner up in the 2014 Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas) and went to Karaka to secure the full sister one year later.

Trained by Jason Bridgman, Windborne was an impressive winner on debut in October 2014, confirming the reputation she was building after trialling in a serious manner.  Put to the test, she certainly showed her class winning the $50,000 Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes with Matt Cameron aboard at just her second start at Avondale in November 2014.

As a 3YO, Windborne has continued to show her ability with further black type succcess.  Ironically one year after her full sister's victory, Windborne also claimed the $50,000 NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes herself at Riccarton Park in September 2015 in the hands of Rosie Myers. It was the second black type success for new Te Akau trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards.

A fourth placing in the $50,000 Listed John Grigg Stakes 1400m at Ashburton in October 2015, she returned to claim 3rd in the $70,000 Group 3 Mr Tiz Trophy  over 1200m at Ellerslie in March 2016 during Auckland Cup Week.  Always giving of her best, she finished fourth to Xtravagant in the $70,000 Group 3 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes 1200m in April 2016, beaten into fourth by just a nose.
