3 Win Saturday - Insatiable Very Satisfying
Date: 29 Dec 2024
A mightily imposing individual, Insatiable (5 g All Too Hard – All Day Baby, by More Than Ready) warranted favouritism and duly obliged in the $18,500 Rating 75 1200 metres on Timaru Cup Day (28 December) at Timaru.
Showing full maturity when parading before resuming during Cup Week in November at Riccarton, where he produced two top efforts for second, Insatiable was without all favours before surging through for a close fifth in the Rating 75 1200 metres on 7 December at Trentham, and took great form into his latest assignment.
A course/distance winner last season, Insatiable had little option other than be ridden patiently from barrier nine, getting back equal last on a genuine pace, but he tracked up ominously rounding the home turn, shouldered clear on straightening, and sustained a strong finish for jockey Diego Montes de Oca.
After winning 89 races during his apprenticeship in Argentina, Montes de Oca was invited by former Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards, now training in Hong Kong, to join the team at Matamata, before transferring to the South Island.
In the race sponsored by Leg Up Oilseed Goodness, Insatiable ran 1200 metres in 1:10.1, last 600m in 34.0 (approx.), on Soft5 footing, and held firm to pay $3.50 & $1.60 on the NZ TAB tote.
“He’s been a good horse throughout his career and now won four races,” said trainer Mark Walker, who trains with Sam Bergerson.
“He seems to really enjoy the quieter training environment at our Riccarton barn. Hunter (Durrant) has done a good job to get him back into the winner’s circle and he’s a horse that continues to improve with age.
“His racing manners are much better now which helps him to finish his races off and he’s the type to continue to be competitive and win more races.”
Insatiable was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $190,000 at the 2021 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Windsor Park Stud, and owned by the Te Akau All Too Much Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
“He had a good spell after last racing in April in the North Island, and really developed in that time,” Ellis said.
“He was unlucky not to win one of his two starts during Cup Week and the owners will be thrilled to see him win again. Especially one of his notable sporting owners, All Black Anton Lienert-Brown.
“Mark and Sam have placed him well, Hunter (Durrant) is doing a great job with all our horses in the South Island, and he’s a horse that should continue to be competitive wherever he races over the summer months.”
The sire of Insatiable, All Too Hard (Casino Prince), is a half-brother to the unbeaten champion Black Caviar (Bel Esprit), who won all 25 starts, including 15 Group One wins, while also the sire of Queensland Horse of the Year Alligator Blood, Champion Sprinter in Hong Kong, Wellington, and multiple Group One winners Behemoth and Forbidden Love.
All Too Hard is also the sire of Stefi Magnetica, the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap winner and Champion Three-Year-Old Filly last season in Australia.
All Too Hard has sired 72 stakes' winners and approaching 1700 wins in total.
Insatiable's dam All Day Baby is by international sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo). A world-renowned stallion, More Than Ready has been Champion Sire in both hemispheres, has proved to be an outstanding sire of sires, and is going from strength-to-strength as a broodmare sire.
Insatiable was strapped by Hollie Smith.
