50 = $3 million

50 = $3 million

How can 50 equal $3 million?

When Te Akau celebrates Mark Walker's 50th Singapore win for the season last night at Kranji, that's how.

However the celebrations don't stop there - yet another milestone has been reached - Te Akau Singapore has now exceeded the $3 million level in prizemoney won for our owners in Singapore this season (and three and a half months are yet to come).

Te Akau Singapore's 50th win for the season came courtesy of Zac Heaven, an Australian bred Danbird gelding raced by the Zac Stable.  The formidable combination of Mark Walker and Joao Moreira proved the winning formula for the 6YO whose fourth win last night saw his stakes' earnings climb to $219,465.  Aside from his four wins, this very consistent galloper has been runner up on eight occasions, 3rd placed ten times and fourth eight times.

Mark currently lies 4th on the Trainers' Premiership with his 50 wins and Moreira, Singapore's Champion Jockey, has now saluted the judge 163 times this season.  Aside from Mark's 50 winners, he has trained 69 runners up, 62 third and 61 fourth placegetters.

There is no question that Te Akau's Singapore operation is a jewel in our crown - the stakes are incredible and offer our owners a unique opportunity.  Passing $3 million in stakes tells the story - and the best is yet to come with the Singapore Turf Club announcing this past week that stakes will increase from April 2014 - with for example, initiation maiden events climbing from $65,000 to $75,000.

Here's to plenty of exciting times to come for Te Akau in Singapore - and watch for the team on Sunday at Kranji as we look forward to the winning continuing!  Congratulations to Mark and Julia, Gus and Karen and the whole team!
