6 Win Saturday - Blue You Beauty
26 October, 2025
After making the best possible start to his racing career when winning the Maiden 2YO 800 metres on 27 September at Riccarton, Out Of The Blue (2 g Tivaci – Cornflower Blue, by Savabeel) backed up on the course with victory in the $40,000 Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series 2YO 800 metres on Saturday.
Out Of The Blue exuded a good action and plenty of stretch when winning on debut by two lengths, and rightfully dominated betting as $1.40 favourite at his second start.
Ridden by Opie Bosson ONZM, Out Of The Blue began well to race outside the leader, gained the advantage 200m out, and lengthened stride to score comfortably.
“It was another really professional effort to win again today,” said Mark Walker, training partner with Sam Bergerson.
“It was a good ride of Opie’s to get across, kept him nice and balanced the whole way up the straight, and the beauty of that win means he’s assured of getting into the Karaka Million in January at Ellerslie.
“The trip down south to our stables at Riccarton has helped the horse to grow up mentally and Hunter (Durrant) and the team have done a really good job with him.
“He’ll go back north, now, for a short break and he’ll concentrate on getting ready for the Karaka Million. He’s certainly a very nice horse in the making and doing everything asked of him.”
Purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM for $60,000 at the 2025 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud, Out Of The Blue was syndicated among family, friends, and an 'army' of new owners, by Te Akau marketing manager Julia-Rose Ellis, to form the Te Akau Tangerine Army Racing Partnership 1 (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
“It’s fantastic for Julia-Rose Ellis and the syndicate of owners that she put together, and they’ve now got the leading two-year-old in New Zealand, in terms of stakes,” Ellis said.
“Following his win at Riccarton, we had Sword Of Stars (Sword Of State) debut with a really good effort for second at Ellerslie, and there’s a lot of improvement to come in her.”
The $1 million TAB Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) is scheduled for Saturday 24 January at Ellerslie, with horses bought as yearlings at Karaka, and KM nominated, eligible for the race, while those with the most prize money make up the field of 14.
Out Of The Blue is by Group 1 All-Aged Stakes (1400m) winner Tivaci, who commenced stud duties in 2017 at Waikato Stud, and in turn by world-class racehorse and hugely successful sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells).
Cornflower Blue is from the terrific family of 2015 New Zealand Broodmare of the Year and breeding phenomenon, Parfore (Gold Brose). Her progeny of 10 individual winners has won an unbelievable total of 84 races (35 at stakes' level), including Group One winners Super Easy (Darci Brahma), Terravista (Captain Rio), Tiger Tees (Dubawi), Group Two winner Ball of Muscle (Dubawi), and stakes' winner Our Lukas (Generous).
Out Of The Blue carries a cross of breed shaping sire Sir Tristram, on the dam line of Tivaci and sire line of Cornflower Blue.
Out Of The Blue was strapped by Amelia Southworth.
