6 Win Saturday - Kranji Double Delight
Date: 19 Mar 2023
To add to Te Akau New Zealand's massive four win Saturday - Te Akau Singapore chimed in with two wins from Kranji on Saturday evening.
In total - a six-win Saturday with a phenomenal eight second placings as well - those including two Group 1 runners-up, as well as a Group 3 and a Listed runner up!
In Singapore Rocky and Trident saluted the judge for the stable, both raced by Fortuna Racing (Mgr: J Galvin).
Rocky prevailed in the S$30,000 Class 5 1200m in a dominant winning effort, almost two lengths ahead of his nearest opponent. Taking advantage of the handy draw, stable apprentice Fadzli Yusoff didn't panic when the 4YO gelding was a tad slow away. His approach paid off, with the rider finding a nice position in the running, one out and one back. His performance saw the son of El Roca record his second win in ten Singapore starts.
Soon after, Trident saluted in the same colours in the S$50,000 Class 4 over 1400m. Formerly known as Polaris when racing from Te Akau's Matamata stable, he was transferred by his ownership group to race from our Singapore stable and to date has won S$145,000.
A 4YO son of Deep Field, purchased by David Ellis CNZM from the Karaka Book 1 Sale, Trident was lining up for his second start this preparation. Originally to be ridden by champion jockey Vlad Duric, successful senior rider Benny Woodworth secured the mount late in the piece due to Duric standing down due to illness.
Jumping well, the gelding was always handily placed in behind the speed - when asked the question as they turned for home, he picked up and by-passed the leaders going on to claim victory by half a length. He showed a lot of determination to fend off a strong late challenge from the runner up. With his two wins and three placings in Singapore, Ricky has earned just on S$45,000.
