A Storming Birthday
30 May, 2016
It was terrific to see Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker land yet another winner for our Te Akau New Zealand owners on Sunday at Kranji.
As you know, barely a weekend passes where the 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer doesn't add to his winning tally for the season. This season is once again shaping up to be an exciting one - with only five months complete, Mark is again leading the Trainers' Premiership with 39 wins and just on S$2 million in prize money won already.
On Sunday it was the turn of Storm Trooper - a 4YO gelding who fought out a gruelling duel to snare victory by a whisker in the first event at Kranji. Bought by David Ellis from the Karaka Select Sale for $70,000, he is by sire of the moment Tavistock.
Interestingly it was another son of Tavistock who won the S$300,000 Group 2 Stewards' Cup at Kranji last night, beating the Mark Walker trained My Lucky Strike into second. We were thrilled with the latter's performance over 1400m for the first time - already the winner of eight races, My Lucky Strike has also been placed eight times from 18 starts and he has a huge future for the Lucky Stable that races the exciting Charge Forward four year old.
Storm Trooper (below as a yearling) has now raced in Singapore 13 times for two wins and five placings - and his stakes have now passed the S$100,000 level. It was a special win too for one of his owners Brian who was celebrating his 70th birthday yesterday - a lovely present!
