A Very Sad Day

It is with enormously heavy hearts that we share the news that David's amazing mum Joan Ellis slipped away from us at 2.15am this morning in Auckland.

Joan was a beautiful woman from the inside out, and back inside again.  A huge heart, a wicked sense of humour, sharp intellect and limitless and uncompromising love for her three sons and daughter and their partners and children.

After being Head Girl at St Cuthbert's School in Auckland, she set out on a then rare OE for a young woman to England and Europe when aged just 21 - on her return she had a life packed with adventure. community service, church and family. Not forgetting her love of sport - Joan was a sportswoman to the core, an Auckland Ladies' Champion for both golf and for tennis.  Joanie also loved coming to stay at Te Akau Stud with her late husband JDO (David) and is pictured below with David (junior!) a few years ago. We will share our eulogy for Joan with you later in the week after her funeral on Friday.

As a Jewish proverb says - God could not be everywhere so he made mothers.

We say that the loss of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her.  We love you Joanie.
