Amarelinha Sells for $1.1 Million

Purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $300,000 as a yearling from the draft of Waikato Stud, Amarelinha has tonight realised $1.1 million on Gavelhouse Plus, New Zealand Bloodstock's elite online sale platform.

A Karaka Book 1 Sale graduate, the now 5YO Savabeel mare had a stellar career while trained by Te Akau - with highlights including her Group 1 NZ Oak's win, which cemented her title as one of eight NZB Fillies of the Year bought/trained by Te Akau.

"I am delighted with this result for Amarelinha's owners.  We purchase well-bred fillies with the aim of developing their racing CV's and enhancing their future value for their owners - this has certainly been achieved with a return on investment of over 550% with her sale price, combined with her stakes' earnings of $637,535," said Te Akau's David Ellis CNZM this evening.

"It's great news too, that our quality mare has been purchased by Brendan and Jo Lindsay of Cambridge Stud, staving off fierce competition, so she is retained in New Zealand - that is always a bonus for our breeding industry.  She will be visiting their resident stallion Almanzor and we could not be happier for them - Brendan and Jo contribute so much to the New Zealand industry."

Amarelinha's sale on Gavelhouse Plus puts her in great company with Te Akau's multiple Group 1 winning mare Avantage selling last year for $4.1 million (an online global record for a broodmare) and our Group 1 NZ and Group 2 Australian winner Entriviere recently fetching $900,000.
