And Win 93 - Hushed Silences Them

A four-length winner two starts ago at Blenheim, Hushed (5 g Don Eduardo - Danewhisper, by Danehill) fleeced his rivals by nine and a half lengths in The Jolly Potter Rating 75 2100 metres on May 20 at Timaru.

After winning his maiden over 2000 metres in December at Hastings, Hushed was given a reprieve and but for losing his jockey fresh up has won three of his last four starts.

The win also gave trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards a 100% record for the day, after Flirty Gertey (Thorn Park) won earlier on the programme and their 93rd success for the season.

But it was all Hushed. In control from the outset under Matt Cameron, and travelling beautifully throughout, he turned the race into a procession after the likely outcome became apparent at the 600m.

Returning $2.80 & $1.30, Hushed covered the 2100 metres in 2:08.3 and last 600m in 34.9.

“It's a great birthday present for Steve Autridge, to have two runners for two winners,” said David Ellis.

“Hushed is owned by neurosurgeon Dr. Ron Boet, whose had a number of horses with us, Anne Hadfield and the The Carers' Syndicate, and we're really thrilled for them because he's a horse going through the grades quickly.

“The owners chose Te Akau to train him and while it's a thrill to win any race, for an up and coming staying horse you just can't beat it, and he might be a New Zealand Cup horse the way he's won today,” said Ellis.

The meeting was also good for Matt Cameron, who made it three from five rides aboard Hushed and his 48th for Te Akau in the past twelve months.

“Matt rode him super,” said Richards. “I said to him he can be a bit one paced, so don't sit and sprint but he let him roll from the 600m, after getting a cheap sectional down the back, and that was probably the winning of the race.

“He's taken a bit of time to develop, but he's a big staying type of horse that came up from the South Island and they are a great bunch of owners from Christchurch who are very keen on their racing.

“We might give him one more soft one (race) before we up the stakes a bit, but there's plenty more to come, I think,” added Richards.

Dr. Boet said: “When Anne (Hadfield), Malcolm (Shinn) and I bred him, we were hoping to get a horse to run a bit of distance and it's good to see him winning over more than just 1400 or 1600 metres.

“I bought his dam, Danewhisper, from a liquidation sale up north and she came in foal to Align.

Te Akau principal David Ellis purchased the resultant Align (Night Shift) foal for $40,000 at the 2010 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale, from the draft of Phoenix Park, and racing as Secret Whisper he won four races.

“Te Akau also has the two year old Alamosa - Danewhisper, which Jamie (Richards) inspected during Cup week here last November and he is broken in, gelded and in work at Matamata,” said Dr. Boet.

The first foal out of Danewhisper, Sinar Pelangi (Faltaat), won three times up to a mile in Malaysia, and half-sister Lasswade (Johar) was thought to be an Oaks filly before going on to win four races.

Hushed has top sires Danehill (Danzig) and Mr Prospector (Raise a Native) on his dam-side, while his third dam, Sangue (Lyphard) was a triple Group One winner of 13 races up to 2200m in the U.S.A.

Hushed was strapped by Richard Didham.
