Avantage on Exhibition

Having tightened nicely following a terrific second in the Hallmark Stud Handicap (Listed, 1200m) on Boxing Day at Ellerslie, Avantage (4 m Fastnet Rock - Asavant, by Zabeel)  appeared right on song for the Telegraph during an exhibition gallop between races on 7 January at Matamata.

Ridden by Opie Bosson, Avantage worked over 1000 metres in 1:04.7, 800m in 49.6, final 600m in 36.8, and her next start will be the weight-for-age $250,000 JR & N Berkett Telegraph (Gr. 1, 1200m) on Saturday 18 January at Trentham.

Bosson was suitable impressed with the gallop from a mare that has furnished into a particularly strong and beautifully conformed specimen. “Ears pricked and hard on the bridle, it was really nice work,” he said.

“She was always going to come on heaps for the run at Ellerslie, and she's a strong mare now.”

Crowned Champion Two-Year-Old after winning five of her six starts, including the $1m Karaka Million (Listed, 1200m) and Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m), Avantage also won the Birthday Card Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) on Golden Slipper Day, 23 February, at Rosehill Gardens, Sydney.

A million dollar earner, she was bought by Te Akau principal David Ellis for $210,000 at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling, from the Oaks Stud draft, and registered seven wins and three seconds from 13 starts for the Te Akau Avantage Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
