Zzzzzzz - Snooze You Lose
8 April, 2016
He/she who hesitates is lost.
Snooze you lose.
Life is what you make it.
Hesitation is opportunity's assassin.
"Make up your mind to act decisively and take the consequences -
no good is ever done in this world by hesitation"
- Thomas Huxley.
There is an undoubted theme here - if you take your time, hum & ha, muck about, come back to it, talk it over or think it over - you miss out! Our Stratum colt from Sydney already has the "all sold" sign up and we can tell you, this absolutely stunning Fastnet Rock colt will be next - there is only one share now available in this Sydney stand-out!
THERE IS NOW ONLY ONE SHARE AVAILABLE IN THIS STUNNING COLT.
Just look at his physicality - as David noted:
"He's beautifully put together, a strong and muscular colt with a terrific hindquarter who uses himself superbly when he walks - he just floats on air - and uses himself as well as any yearling I have seen for quite some time. He has an unbelievable shoulder, and great balance and importantly, and perhaps best of all, a calm and relaxed temperament and kind eye. He was very popular, he had been in and out of his box for inspections and yet took everything in his stride - when we went to see him straight after he had been in the auction ring, he had his head buried in his feed bucket!"
Fastnet Rock (pictured at the top of this page) is indeed one of the superstar sires of the world - he has written himself into international equine history! This now Champion Australian Sire was also the Champion 3Yo and Champion Sprinter in the same season and he has left a trail of Group 1 progeny in his wake! He has left 11 stakes' winners already this season!
Think Group 1 winners Diamondsandrubies (Curragh), Fascinating Rock (Ascot), Qualify (Epsom), and in Australia there has been Atlantic Jewel, Mosheen, Sea Siren, Wanted, Driefontein, First Seal, Foxwedge, Irish Lights, Nechita, Rock Classic, Super Cool, Your Song, Love Rock, Magicool, Amicus and many, many more plus in New Zealand - the Te Akau purchased and trained Rock 'n' Pop and Heroic Valour, as well as the likes of Atlante, Albany Reunion, Planet Rock - he's left so many good horses, there is not space here to list them!
Let's talk a little more about this colt ...
Lot 272 is the Fastnet Rock colt out of the Galileo mare Dragon's Tail bought by David for A$400,000. He was sold by Erinvale Thoroughbreds and interestingly, the last horse David bought from this stud was the champion mare Princess Coup who cost A$260,000.
Our selection team comprised David, NZB Chairman Joe Walls and Jamie Richards and individually each of them gave this colt an “A†grade. He was one of five colts in the sale that David graded an “Aâ€. To put this into perspective, we only gave six colts an “A†grade at the Karaka Sale this year and we bought four of them.
As an athlete, this colt is one of the very best - David was happy to go to a much higher level to secure him - the good news is, he did not have to.
We know this colt's pedigree very well. The Fastnet Rock/Galileo cross is hugely successful with three top class Group 1 winners already, including the English Oaks' winner. Just last weekend in Europe there was a Group 2 winning colt from this magic cross. We also have the very promising filly Fastnet Fire in the stable - she is the full sister to this colt - and she has shown us that she has the ability to win black type races in the next 12 months. Another full sister of our colt is now with Gai Waterhouse and won a trial recently at Randwick and the stable has a very high opinion of her - so much so, she is off to the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
So it is an exciting family to be part of. Our colt harks from a mouth-watering background that includes international Group winners in Europe and the United Kingdom - absolutely a stallion's pedigree.
Our colt has a beautiful temperament as we said (the Erinvale team told us he was a delight to handle and prepare) and he certainly looks a Derby type of colt in the future. He ticked all of our boxes and we thought he was sensational buying at A$400,000 - the exact price David paid for our Group 1 winner Heroic Valour. We have already bought two Group 1 winners by Fastnet Rock - Rock ‘n' Pop who stands at Waikato Stud and of course Heroic Valour who has created world-wide interest, especially being the first Group 1 winning 2YO globally for the superstar sire.
So the financial detail in New Zealand dollars is this (approximately):
The 10% share is approximately $46,400
A 5% share is approximately $23,200
A 2.5% share is approximately $11,600
As a breeding prospect, his syndicate will be registered for GST so no GST is payable on the purchase price.
