Boxing Day Return for Xtravagant

The Informant reports:

Sensational New Zealand 2000 Guineas' winner Xtravagant will have his next start at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

The Pentire colt, who won the 2000 Guineas by a record-breaking eight and a half lengths at Riccarton last month, will resume in a $50,000 race over 1400 metres.

“He's doing well,” co-trainer Stephen Autridge told www.theinformant.co.nz today. “He'll have an exhibition gallop at Tauranga on Friday, and then he'll run in a 1400-metre three-year-old race at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

“After that we'll go to the Levin Classic at Trentham and then aim at either Melbourne or Sydney.”

His stablemate Risque, who gave Autridge and co-trainer Jamie Richards a Riccarton Guineas double when she won the 1000 Guineas on November 14, is slightly further away from resuming.

“Risque is back in the stable this week after spending a fortnight out at The Oaks Stud,” Autridge said. “She won't run in the Eight Carat Classic at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, but she'll be set for some of the Filly of the Year Series races that come after it. The Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham is likely to be her first target.”
