The second of Te Akau's winning quartet at Cambridge was delivered by Rule of Law, who certainly laid the law down ...
Recording his second victory, Rule Of Law (4 g Justify – Repeat, by Darci Brahma) scored fresh-up in the $18,500 Saddlery Warehouse Rating 65 1300 metres on 18 September at Cambridge.
Second when trialling on 3 September at Cambridge, when held together while sustaining a good gallop, Rule Of Law contested the Wellington Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) last season after producing a promising Maiden victory over 1400 metres in October at Tauranga, and received an ideal opportunity to kickoff with a solid performance.
Ridden by former Te Akau apprentice Wiremu Pinn, who has reunited with the stable and started the season in good fashion, Rule Of Law utilized barrier four to situate outside the leader, was pushed along to stay in touch nearing the home turn, and responded to urgings with genuine endeavour.
Trained by Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson, Rule Of Law ran 1300 metres in 1:17.1 on the poly-track and drifted in betting from an earlier $2.70 fixed odds quote to pay $3.60 & $2.20 on the NZ TAB tote.
“He looked in a bit of trouble and probably hit a flat spot, but to be fair to the horse he picked himself up and was really strong through the line,” said Bergerson, from the course.
“He’s strengthened up nicely this time round, hopefully he can go through the grades this season, and we think that up in trip will really suit him as well.
“His trial here two weeks ago was really good, he’d trained on well, he’s starting to come right in the coat, but we still think there’s improvement in him.”
Purchased by David Ellis CNZM at the Karaka 2022 Book 1 Sale, from The Oaks Stud draft, Rule Of Law is owned by Te Akau 2022 Stallion Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
By US Triple Crown winner Justify (Scat Daddy), his dam, Repeat, is a sister to dual Group One winner Recite (Darci Brahma), out of Champion 2YO Filly Chant (Traditionally).
Ellis also purchased dam sire Darci Brahma (Danehill) as a yearling at Karaka, and the five time Group One winner has become an outstanding sire and broodmare sire.
Trained by Mark Walker, Darci Brahma was one of the absolute best racehorses to grace tracks over the last 20 years in New Zealand.
Dam Repeat won twice to 1600 metres, while her sister, Recite, was a high quality filly that won seven times to 1600 metres including two Group Ones.

At the time of purchasing Rule Of Law, Ellis said: “He’s a beautiful colt by the new stallion, Justify, and people that have young progeny by him are very impressed.
“He walked well, correct, medium sized, all quality, and there was plenty of competition to buy him.”
Rule Of Law has a cross of outstanding sire and sire of sires Mr. Prospector, on the sire line of Justify and dam line of Repeat.
