Chadsdale Charges Home

Chadsdale (4 g Castledale - Geeiliani, by Faltaat) recorded a fitting in fresh up win when taking out the Carrfields Livestock Matamata Maiden 1200 metres on 16 December at Matamata.

Narrowly beaten on the home track in two of his three attempts, Chadsdale is owned by strong stable supporter Stan Painton who recently purchased a horse property near the racecourse.

Made aware of a short sprint that the horse possesses, jockey Grant Cooksley was required to draw on all his experience in handling the strong gelding. Going keenly three wide on the pace, Cooksley restrained Chadsdale to fifth at the 800m, ranged three wide into third at the 600m, and only pushed the go button after levelling inside the final furlong.

To the credit of the horse, he had been a touch unlucky not to have won already. Now a four-year-old, and resuming off 179 days, he certainly stripped as a stronger specimen.

Although only a long head margin, Chadsdale scored comfortably and clocked a very respectable 1:10.7 for the 1200 metres. He paid $5.70 & $2.00 on the tote.

Out of three-quarter sister to four-time Group one winner and Champion 3YO Tit for Taat (Faltaat), Chadsdale was purchased for Painton by co-trainer Stephen Autridge for $15,000 and has an interesting cross of Raise a Native and Nashua on both sides of his pedigree.

“He's here at the races and very pleased,” said Autridge, of owner Stan Painton.

“We liked the breed and Stan loves winning races, and he particularly likes winning races at Matamata.

“He has needed to strengthen and he's done that in a hurry over the last three to four months and [Grant] Cooksley said he thinks he can go with it.

“We've had some correspondence with the Herbert's, who trained Tit for Taat, and the dam, Geeiliani, who showed them a lot of promise but suffered chronic tying up problems.

“Chadsdale has also tied up in his muscles too, earlier on, but at the moment we've got him sorted.

“The form of the race had a bit about it, as the second horse (Thornhill) was beaten by a couple of good horses [Sophia Rosa & Duchess Kate],” said Autridge.

“He's a horse that can handle any conditions and today he handled a bit of pressure.  He's always shown something and now that he's strengthened up, providing we look after him, he should carry on."
