Date: 23 Nov 2023
From Auctions To Action: Let's Dive Into The Weekend Of Racing Ahead!
We're delighted to bring you a fresh edition of Te Akau TV! In this week's recap, Hamish first catches up with David Ellis CNZM following the Ready To Run Sales. Then, he chats with NZ co-trainer Sam, and together they cover the past week's highlights. The spotlight is on an 'elegant scenario' as Elegant Lady and Perfect Scenario secured victories for our team on NZ Cup day at Riccarton.
It seems like the pace never slows down around here, but we wouldn't have it any other way! The Karaka Ready To Run Sale had all hands on deck, led by David Ellis CNZM, Mark Walker, Marcus Corban, Reece Trumper, and Ben Gleeson over from Australia, were all focused on uncovering our next standout recruits. With their blinkers on, the team successfully completed the Karaka Ready To Run sale today, bringing home an impressive total of five new 2YO's for the stable.
The dedication and keen eye for talent displayed by the team have paid off in the past, with Group 1 winners such as Gingernuts, Te Akau Shark, and Hall of Fame emerging from this sale. Singapore Polytrack Horse of the Year was another Te Akau purchase from this sale too. Despite the record-breaking nature of the top end of the market at the sale, our team was able to identify and secure excellent value for our owners. It's an exciting time for us, and we look forward to the journey ahead with our new acquisitions.
Exciting news! We currently have shares available in these promising two-year-olds, but they are selling fast, so don't delay!! These talented youngsters will be joining our New Zealand stable with Mark, and there's already significant interest from Australia. Keep a close eye on their progress as they might just make their way across the ditch to join our Cranbourne stable!

Let's dive into what's on everyone's mind—this weekend's racing action!
We're starting the weekend on Friday with a trip down to the mighty Taranaki, Mark Walker's home region, where we have a team of six runners ready to rock.
On Saturday, the action continues with four starters at Wanganui and we head further north to the Pukekohe meeting on the same day.
We have the classy mare Aromatic looking to secure back-to-back titles in the Counties Cup. This time last year, we celebrated a stable quinella in the Group 3 event with Aromatic prevailing after a bitter duel with Joint NZB Filly of the Year Self Obsession, just a long neck separating them at the line. It was also special as the win was trainer Mark Walker's 100th stakes' win in NZ.
The stakes are high at Pukekohe this Saturday, and include the Listed Counties Challenge Stakes with a compact field of six juveniles. Keep an eye on two of our promising two-year-olds, Maracatu and Bellatrix Star, both have bright futures. The Group 3 Haunui Farm Counties Bowl boasts a small but powerful field, with Group 1 winner Romancing The Moon leading the charge for the tangerine fold.
We also can’t wait for the Group 2 Dunstan Horsefeeds' Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes which promises an exciting contest, with Campionessa and Wolverine showcasing their talent as they hunt down further black type for their already-impressive CVs.
In Victoria, Grace 'N' Grey makes her much awaited debut on Saturday while recent acquisition Midnight Blue contests the A$200,000 Kilmore Cup on Sunday. Unfortunately, as we have seen lately, they are not drawn to advantage. Then settle in for Saturday racing from Singapore.
A big shout out to our incredible owners, as a number of new owners join us this week. To our team members too - we are so lucky that you are are as madly passionate about our horses and racing as we are. Our team's commitment ensures that our horses are have world-class care and attention and are ready to give their best on the track.
Here's to a weekend filled with exciting races and outstanding performances!
Good luck to all our runners and connections - Go The Tangerine!
