Cote De Beune Burns the Opposition
Date: 17 Apr 2022
In the sponsor's colours, Cote de Beaune (3 g Burgundy - Lucrative, by Pyrus) won the $30,000 Join Team Te Akau - Shares Available 3YO 1200 metres on Saturday at Te Rapa.
After sustaining a strong gallop for second in a trial on 5 April at Cambridge (poly-track), Cote de Beaune won his third race from four attempts, having won his first two and being claimed late when second fresh-up in a 3YO 1200 metres on 12 March at Trentham.
Assistant Trainer Sam Bergerson alluded to pressing forward despite drawing wide (10), possibly situating outside the leader which is exactly how it panned out for Te Akau stable rider Opie Bosson.
While second placed Aris Aris (Contributer) loomed to threaten, Cote de Beaune was equal to the task and it was a huge effort after working early.
“He was fractionally slow away, but worked across and got a couple of good sections,†said trainer Mark Walker. “So, I thought it was a pretty good effort to hold on in the finish.â€
With a view to returning for the Cambridge Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) on 30 April at Te Rapa, Walker said: “Obviously, that will be the plan so we'll just see how the horse pulls up first.â€
Bred by Te Akau Stud and Jamie Richards, Cote de Beaune is owned by Te Akau Grand Cru Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
On Good3 footing, Cote de Beaune ran 1200 metres in 1:10.5, last 600m 35.2, and held firm to pay $4.50 & $1.90 on TAB tote.
Cote de Beaune is by five-time stakes' winning stallion Burgundy (Redoute's Choice), a three-quarter brother to Darci Brahma (Danehill). His dam Lucrative performed consistently with three wins to 1400 metres, and he carries bloodline crosses to influential stallions Northern Dancer, Nijinsky, Bletchingly and Nureyev.
Grand-dam Lucadore (Wild Rampage) won six races to 1400 metres and in addition left sister Dawn Ghost (Pyrus), winner of four races including Waikato Cup (Gr. 2, 2400m).
“He's fashioning a really good record, knows where the line is, and it's great to see another Burgundy going so well this season,†said Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM.
“I bought both Darci Brahma and Burgundy as yearlings at Karaka, Danehill line colts, and I get thrill every time one of their progeny wins.â€
