Counties Meeting Abandoned
24 May, 2016
New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing reports:
After 66mm of rain over the last 7 days, including 13mm last night, the Club arranged for two horses, ridden by senior jockeys, to gallop on the course proper.
Following this representatives from the Club, RIU and Trainers' Association walked the track. Given the weather forecast for the next 24 hours and the new state of the track there was a consensus that the track was likely to deteriorate further and it was recommended that racing on the track tomorrow should not proceed.
Every attempt was made to find an alternative venue.
All races for the meetings on Saturday and Sunday will remain open until 9am Wednesday 25 May.
Options for an alternative meeting in the coming days will be explored.
