David Ellis Purchases Top Lot
5 June, 2014
We are very proud that Te Akau's David Ellis secured the top priced yearling on day one of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on Wednesday on the Gold Coast.
The filly is an absolutely drop dead gorgeous girl by leading Coolmore Stud based sire Fastnet Rock and was eagerly sought after. We were delighted that David's sole bid snared her after spirited bidding by (subsequent) underbidders took her to the $300,000 mark. Then came David's first - and as it turned out - final bid.
Consigned as Lot 1559, the filly is the first foal out of the unraced Galileo mare Dragon's Tail. The filly hails from a successful UK family that has produced Lockinge Stakes winner Fly To The Stars, and Group 1 French Oaks and Group 1 1,000 Guineas winner Highclere.
We can't wait for her to arrive home to Te Akau Stud where she will be broken in by James Jackson.
The other good news is that she is 100% sold already with a waiting list for shares in her. As you know, shares in our Te Akau yearlings are always snapped up very quickly.
David has already purchased two NZB Filly of the Year winners from this sale in Group 1 winners Princess Coup and Costa Viva. Here's looking forward to the team - David, Mark, Jason and Jamie - having secured another Group 1 filly!
