Double Singapore Header

The lack of coverage of Singapore racing on Trackside in New Zealand tonight hasn't stopped the Te Akau Singapore juggernaut - with trainer Mark Walker continuing to deliver the winners!

The Chinese New Year celebrations kicked off for the stable in style when Alpha Centauri claimed the Happy and Prosperous $60,000 Class 4 Stakes over 1600m on the turf long course D.  Ridden by Manny Nunes, the son of Keeper out of Country Rose truly is a good news story for his owners.

Purchased by David Ellis from the Karaka 2011 Select Sale, the 5YO had a significant injury lay off late in 2013 - nursed along with the utmost patience, he has steadily improved since resuming, culminating in two narrow defeats on 18 January and 1 February.

However he was not to be denied tonight and carrying 58.5kgs, he was a comfortable one length winner over the mile.  In his 18 Singapore starts, Alpha Centauri has now won three races with five second, four third and one fourth placing and has banked nearly $180,000 for his happy owners.  A great result from a $60,000 outlay.

In the next race, Sacred Spin was very unlucky not to win but the winning vein was about to return when Catch Me Great romped home in Race 6 the $65,000 Peace and Harmony Initiation WFA Stakes over 1200m.

Ridden by Michael Rodd and raced by Toast Trusts and Chua Boon Kang Stable, the son of Circular Quay was having just his third start this evening.  After being runner up at his first two appearances, the 4YO looks to have an exciting future ahead of him.

Tonight's victories take Mark Walker's season tally to 19 wins - with only seven weeks of the season complete - it looks to be an exciting few months ahead for certain!
