Dream Result for Charmaine
5 April, 2021
After dictating terms, Charmaine's Dream (3 f Charm Spirit - Scatter Cat, by Black Minnalouse) was too strong in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on Easter Monday at Tauranga.
The win meant successive victories for Fortuna Syndications, following four-year-old gelding Entertainer (Zoustar), who delivered on Sunday night for Te Akau trainer Mark Walker in Singapore.
Patiently prepared by Jamie Richards, and having just her fourth start, Charmaine's Dream had held her spot for third when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1050 metres on 17 March at Matamata, and brought the form and credentials to rate a top three chance in the race sponsored by The Chantelle Showstopper 50thCelebration.
From the very good Moore-bred family, she was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $87,500 at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.
Bred by Alchemy Family Trust, Windsor Park Stud, and E J Wood, and owned by Fortuna Syndications (Mgr: John Galvin), she is from the second crop of world-class triple Group One winner Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit), the second highest rated 3YO Miler in the world (to Kingman), standing at Windsor Park.
“She won very nicely and under no real pressure,†Galvin said. “Plan A in riding instructions to Sam (Collett) was to get some cover, but she jumped so well that she finished up leading. So, it was Plan B for Sam and she was able to keep her comfortable.
“She looked to be travelling easily on the point of the home turn and Sam only went for her over the last 200m.
“She's always shown natural ability, but not been quite there mentally and we've had to give her time just to grow and mature in all facets, and get through the flightiness that she's been inclined to have.
“The (Te Akau) team tell me that it's starting to work and I think we saw today that she's learning to be racehorse.
“Sam was complimentary post-race, saying that she would take confidence from the win that she's coming along well, and feels she's ready to take the next step up in grade. From what we've seen so far she looks like a 1200-metre to a mile type of filly, but she's only had a handful of races and let's see how she develops in the next few starts.â€
The win continued a terrific Easter for Richards, after Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner On the Bubbles (Brazen Beau) registered the fourth consecutive Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) for Te Akau on Saturday at Awapuni, and both Mai Tai (Atlante) and Markus Aurelius (Ghibellines) won at Ellerslie.
“It was a good ride by Sam (Collett) to take the bull by the horns,†Richards said. “She was able to get a soft sectional across the top and she found a good kick at the top of the straight. She had a look at the winning post but did the job nicely to win.
“She can be a bit hot and temperamental, but feel we are getting there with her now and I think the key to her today was getting back right-handed.
“She cornered well, up to 1200 metres suited, and she's a filly that can go on with it now. It was good to get another nice winner for John (Galvin) and his Fortuna owners.
“She's a filly that Dave (Ellis) bought from the Ready to Run Sale and shaping as though it won't be her last win.â€
Charmaine's Dream was strapped by Trevor Stewart.
