Early Support Strong for Sword of State

We are delighted that our Champion 2YO, Group One and multiple Group winner and performer Sword of State is going to be so popular at his first season standing at Cambridge Stud ...

NZ Racing News reports:

Cambridge Stud have been buoyed by the early interest in their freshman sire Sword Of State ahead of the coming breeding season.

“It (interest) has been very good,” Cambridge Stud chief executive Henry Plumptre told Bensley.

“We are very lucky that we have got some good shareholders in our two horses we have brought in from Europe - Hello Youmzain and Almanzor. A lot of them have taken a share in Sword Of State.

“There is quite a bit of Australian interest in the horse, which is fantastic. We have got three Australian shareholders that have taken a share in the horse and will be sending mares over.

“He is a hard horse not to like. He is a son of Snitzel, he was the fourth highest rated two-year-old of his year across Australasia, he is a beautiful type, and he has got a great temperament.

“We will be supporting him strongly - we will be sending 35 mares to him.”

Sword Of State was purchased by David Ellis CNZM from the Magic Millions' Gold Coast Sale for A$600,000.  Bred by Sir Owen Glenn, he won 6 of his 11 starts, including the Group 1 Sistema Stakes over 1200m and the Group 3 Waikato Slipper over the same distance before being crowned Champion New Zealand 2YO of the Year.

Sword Of State will stand at Cambridge Stud this coming breeding season for a fee of $15,000+GST.
