Entriviere Excellent on Debut

Entriviere  (4 m Tavistock - Marcey's Belt, by Golan) provided leading rider Danielle Johnson with her 900thwin on 23 September in the $10,000 Waikato Farriers Association Maiden 1200 metres at Matamata.

Johnson (29) recorded her first win in April 2007, aboard The Sportsman (Kilimanjaro), at Ellerslie, and since won 107 stakes' races, including 18 Group 1's. Given a great start to the new season, she currently leads the premiership with 20 wins and a buffer of five over her nearest rival, Craig Grylls.

Entriviere was very good through the trials' stage, winning under a hold most recently on 3 September at Te Teko, and Johnson gave her a perfect trip in the trail from barrier two. Presented at a timely moment in the straight, she got to the leader at the 150 metres stayed strong when under siege late.

On the strength of her trial performances, Entriviere started a short order in betting to pay $1.90 & $1.30 on the NZ TAB tote, after running the 1200 metres in a slick 1:10.7 and last 600m in 35.6 on Dead5 footing.

Trainer Jamie Richards also saddled third placed Silver Lake (Redoute's Choice) and debutante Secret Amour (Niagara) to finish fourth.

“It was a good result and very pleased to see her do that,” Richards said. “Her trials had been really good and we gave her three weeks since Te Teko into her first start.

“She drew a nice barrier (2), got the run, still doing quite a bit wrong but there is a lot of improvement to come. She's got her Maiden win out of the way and we believe she can go on with it.

“The team at the Uni Barn has done a great job with her. She's a filly that has taken time to mature, but is starting to strengthen now and has it all in front of her. It's exciting for the new ownership group, who bought her last week and also congratulations to Danielle on getting her 900thwin.”

Bred by Kevin & Kathleen Gray, Copper Belt Lodge, Entriviere is from the family of triple Group 1 winner of the Cox Plate, Orr Stakes, and Yalumba Stakes, Maldivian (Zabeel). She is owned by the Te Akau Buckle Up Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

The win provided an exciting moment too for Gary & Lorraine McDonnell, in Alexandra, parents of Leanne Richards, and grandparents of trainer Jamie Richards - who share in her ownership.

“We just finalised putting the new syndicate together last week for this horse, so it's a fantastic result,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM. “She's owned by very happy clients that have had horses with Te Akau previously.

“Jamie is an incredible young trainer. That was his 14thwin from the last 50 runners, a strike rate of 3.8. Over Christmas and New Year when we often have small fields, that might not be such an achievement but it's an amazing feat at this time of the season when we've had big fields.

“Also, what a fantastic accomplishment it was by Danielle to have already reached 900 wins. She's a brilliant rider, in great form, extremely professional in her approach to race riding and a great ambassador for our industry.”

Entriviere was strapped by Anna Jones.
